Heidi and the El Cats is a true Lake Worth invention. The Heidi in question (last name Jacobsen) was born in Toronto and worked as a fashion designer in New York before making her way to South Florida. It's on our sunny shores that she befriended Cliff Guest, a Miami native who had been directing music videos in Los Angeles before returning home(ish). On a random outing to the old Bamboo Room in Lake Worth, they both found themselves spellbound during a performance by blues performer Keith Brown. Though neither Jacobsen nor Guest themselves boasted any kind of blues background, they instantly felt the genre's deep soul reverberations. Soon after, they formed Heidi and the El Cats and hit the local circuit themselves. That was over a decade ago, and the band continues to bring its blend of acoustic soul and harmonica-driven roots to laid-back venues around the state.
