Even if you never dreamed of being a dentist, you can still appreciate the story of Hermey the Elf, DDS, his struggle to break with elvish tradition and become a dentist, and his journey to the Island of the Misfit Toys. Perhaps you have long dreamed of becoming an artist of some kind, society’s ultimate and perennial misfit. You’re not the first person to dream that dream, and you will have a chance to check out and purchase the work of more than 25 such dreamers at this month’s Art Nouveau event, appropriately themed “Island of the Misfit Toys” at Respectable Street (518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach) on Wednesday from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Admission is free, there will be drink specials, music will be provided by Danxiety, and, as usual, Devious Body Art will be there to paint the beautiful blank canvas of some young lady’s torso. One artist will be selected as Best in Show and will receive a trophy and a gift certificate to Artworks International. In celebration of the season, you — being 20 or older — are invited to bring an unwrapped, unused toy to be donated to Toys for Tots. Visit artnouveauevents.com or “like” their Facebook page for more information. And if you’re finally ready to live the dream, send an email to [email protected] to register as a vendor for future Art Nouveau events.
