Deerfield Beach quintet Uproot Hootenanny is a band that pushes the definition of folk music to extremes. It must be particularly dauntless or ever-so-slightly screwy (or a combination of both) to attempt to slide from a traditional Irish folk tune into a Snoop Doggy Dogg track, but that’s what Uproot Hootenanny does. Performing more than 200 shows per year, from Jupiter to the Florida Keys, the group’s fusion of Celtic, bluegrass, and folk has made it a top draw at venues, including the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth and Sloppy Joes in Key West. Uproot Hootenanny is a full-on folk assault onstage, performing with multiple fiddles, stand-up bass, mandolin, banjo, and dobra (an old-time acoustic guitar). It also performs animated covers of such disparate acts as the Grateful Dead and Men at Work. Witness the Uproot Hootenanny spectacle for free, where it will be taking on a blend of both styles, at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Lauderdale Irish pub Maguires Hill 16.
