Hollywood films: Strip away the A-list stars, production values, and big budgets -- or any budget, for that matter -- and what do you get? The swedes. To wit, a "sweded film" is a goofy, indie riff on a big-time blockbuster. Think Top Gun performed with cardboard boxes instead of fighter jets and the filmmaker's stoner roommate starring as Maverick. Meet local swede artists and their works tonight at the Swede Fest Palm Beach in the Borland Center for Performing Arts.
South Florida comedy/improv troupe the Jove will ham it up as MCs for the first-time event, which bills itself as "bad movies by good people." All of the amateur films included will clock in at three minutes or less and will feature nonactors performing PG-13 material. The festival gets under way at 7 p.m., and doors open at 6. There is a limit of 500 seats available for the festival; tickets cost $5 in advance or $6 at the door. The Borland Center for Performing Arts is located at 4901 PGA Blvd. in Palm Beach Gardens.
