At Black Locust Society's monthly party debut at the new Five Points Lounge this past May, BLS954 rapper Protoman introduced fellow MC Ricardo "Gaps" Tejeda as the "Hologram of Tupac." "I just got jumped into the Bloods," Gaps later confessed, rocking a gold rope around his neck and a red bandanna atop his head. He was almost certainly joking; there isn't much room for violence in Black Locust Society. From warehouse parties to an outdoor swap meet, BLS has been a Broward-based outlet for creatives since 2010. "Fort Lauderdale is full of creative, forward-thinking, rad people," event organizers told New Times earlier this year. "The scene is here, just not well-organized. BLS954 is our answer to that." But Broward is just beginning. Later this month, Black Locust Society will embark on the "BLS Florida World Tour," a four-city trek across the Sunshine State that kicks off at Green Room.
