Summer is a brutal time for South Florida gardeners and locavores alike. The reward for surviving the hellish season? Just as northerners are beginning to count down to the season's final harvest (and impending crappy weather), Floridians are welcoming the return of farmers' markets, such as this Thursday's Green Market @ FAU. The weekly shindig -- hosted in part by Florida Atlantic University alumni-owned business Inika Foods -- will have the usual market suspects, including fresh produce, prepared foods (hummus and sauces), handmade crafts and jewelry, and organic goodies like lotions and soaps. "Day at the Beach" is the theme this week, so bring a beach umbrella and blanket if you feel like hanging out for a bit and chatting up a cute coed about sustainability practices. The Green Market @ FAU is open Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m. Admission is free, but bring cash for any purchases you plan to make. The market will be held in the southwest corner of the Florida Atlantic University Stadium Plaza, located at 777 Glades Road in Boca Raton. Call 561-297-2211, or visit fau.edu/missiongreen.
Thu., Sept. 6, 4-8 p.m., 2012
