The American electoral process may leave a bad taste in many a citizen's mouth, but we're still a nation with an appetite for democracy. Hence the draw of the Burger Beast Burgie Awards, an annual showdown that allows South Floridians to cast a vote for their favorite restaurants and food trucks. This year, for the first time, the award ceremonies and accompanying festival will take place in Broward County (take that, Miami!). More than 20 food trucks and five restaurants will be selling their wares while Chat Chow TV's Lauren Bernat handles hosting duties as awards are given out in categories like "best burger" and "best food truck." The Fourth Annual Burger Beast Burgie Awards are 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Esplanade Park (400 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Awards will be handed out at 9 p.m. There is no cost to attend; food and drink will be available for purchase. Call 305-305-3999, or visit burgerbeast.com.
