Ever dreamed of being on the hit CBS show The Amazing Race? Are you a witty trivia guru who loves doing things in the name of a good cause? If so, the Salvation Army is almost making that dream a reality by sponsoring a fundraising event mirroring the concept of this show. Hosting a scavenger-hunt-like race that is expected to last an entire day, teams will wander across Fort Lauderdale relying on clues to direct them to a checkpoint somewhere in the city. To remain competitive, teams will have to complete a task at each checkpoint to discover the next clue. Through physically or mentally challenging tasks that could involve monotonous activities, trivia contests, or food challenges, the first team to reach the goal will win the grand prize of $2,000. The second-place team wins $1,000, and third place wins $500. Watch out for competition, as the top three fundraising teams as of midnight Thursday, April 3, will receive perks that will make the race easier. Teams of two people 18 and older may consist of couples, friends, coworkers, or relatives. Funds raised from this event will benefit the Salvation Army's homeless shelters. Get ready to race at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, located at 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Registration is $25 per person and $50 per team.
