Burger Bros. drive-in/takeout opened on Dixie Highway just south of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to eager crowds. The server said they are a chain from California, and the sign indicates it has been around since 1964 -- but we were unable to find them in a search of online burger franchises. A Burger Bros. in Towson, Maryland, is of no relation, according to its owner, Mike Murphy.

The West Palm quick-serve is a two-sided drive-in, in an old Checkers' building, with a walk-up out front and patio tables nearby. Burgers, which they claim to be

all-fresh, with all-fresh ingredients, are $1.99, $2.99, and $4.99 for

the "Big Bro half pounder." You get it their way -- well done. Combo it

up with a drink and a side for $2.99.

Also on the menu are hot

dogs, chili, and a few salads -- and fresh, hand-cut French fries, which

won the most kudos from diners. Guests in line this past weekend

wondered aloud if they were, however, growing the potatoes first. Lines

were long and slow-moving, orders not right until the second or third

time at the window, causing many to hop across the street to Burger

King. Clearly, they have birthing pains, but it's only a week into it

for them.
