Kentucky Fried Chicken announced the discovery of an unpublished "food autobiography" written by chicken king Colonel Harland Sanders more than 40 years ago.
The manuscript was found by 30-year employee Amy Sherwood, who found the manuscript next to the company's secret original recipe while archiving documents in KFC's 770-pound vault.
The vault, which houses the restaurant chain's secret recipe, among other documents, is reported to have a one-half-inch-thick steel door, 24-hour closed circuit monitoring, and a dual entry system. All of which begs the question -- all this security and they didn't know what was in the vault?
Maybe we don't believe in kismet or fate here at Clean Plate Charlie, but the statement released by KFC parent Yum Brands reads much like a children's fairy tale.
"On the eve of 11/11/11, KFC Corp., the brand famous for 11 herbs and spices, announced today that it has discovered an unpublished 'food autobiography' of the company's founder, Colonel Harland Sanders, hidden in the company's Louisville archival storage facility for the past 40 years."
The story behind the Colonel's 11 secret herbs and spices were found on
the eve of 11/11/11? That's some coincidence. The fact that the company
plans to publish the manuscript also makes this discovery sound a bit
like a publicity stunt.
Still, we're looking forward to reading about the Colonel's
recipes for good, old-fashioned Southern cooking like biscuits,
pancakes, omelets, casseroles, pies, and breads.
Kinda makes you wonder what else is in the KFC vault... maybe it's time for a very special episode of Hoarders.
