Did you ever dream about feasting on a three course prix fixe meal for under twenty bucks, only to wake up from that dream, knowing that there's no chance that would ever happen...along with the realization that your dinner date will never be George Clooney or Mila Kunis?
We can't do anything about Clooney or Kunis, but we can tell you where to get a gourmet lunch or dinner at an insanely inexpensive price...The Chef's Palette at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Every Thursday and Friday, the Art Institute opens the doors to its
restaurant, The Chef's Palette, where students in the final quarter of the school's culinary program work both front and back of the house
under strict supervision of the chef faculty. The students gain invaluable
hands-on experience, allowing them to transition into the real world
upon graduation..and you get a wonderful three-course meal for a song.
The
restaurant is serves a three-course, prix-fixe lunch ($14.99) on
Thursdays and Fridays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Dinner ($17.99) is served the
same days from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. Taxes and beverages are additional,
though iced tea is provided at no charge. Beer and wine are
available.
The menu rotates every 11 weeks to reflect the seasons
(and the new class of students, who are charged with creating a unique
meal that showcases their talents). Past dishes have included fillet of
salmon seared and topped with beurre blanc, linguini with fresh clams,
and a marinated rib eye. Desserts are freshly baked on premises.
And who knows? The student/chef in the kitchen today could be tomorrow's hot celebrity restaurateur. And then Clooney and Kunis will beg you to join them for dinner...because you have an "in" with the chef!
