Move over Whole Foods. There's a new organic market in town.
The Publix, featuring a number of amenities unique to Greenwise Markets, will open this Saturday, May 1. The store, located at 1181 S. University Drive in Plantation, is moving into the former Alberton's Supermarket. It will compete directly with the Whole Foods Market doing business just across Peters Road.
The Publix will have a number of features normal Publixes don't have. There will be a large selection of prepared foods, including a carving station making fresh sandwiches, hot soups, an olive bar, and a large selection of imported cheeses. An Aprons Cooking School located on the second floor will hold classes and cooking demos with local chefs. An organic cafe will allow customers to enjoy food in-store, while a liquor store with organic wines lets you take the party home. The store will also feature a fully functional pharmacy.
With Whole Foods and the new Publix within walking distance of each other, it'll be interesting to see which market customers choose. It could also make for some interesting incentives by both stores to lure shoppers in.
