This is South Florida Beer Week, and
tons of beercentric activities like tastings, tap takeovers, and
pairings are planned throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties (and in Miami, if you feel like making the drive). You can find details on a few select events after the jump.
Not a fan of hops, malt, or barley? There are a few other options this week and weekend, like the Stone Crab and Seafood Festival in Fort Lauderdale and cooking classes that celebrate the ever-beloved bacon.
Tonight:
PL8 Kitchen Beer Dinner -- PL8 Kitchen will host a four-course beer dinner with seatings starting at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served until 11:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person plus tax and tip. Call for a reservation; 954-524-1818.
Tuesday:
Funky Buddha Hosts a Florida Tap Takeover -- Funky Buddha Lounge in Boca Raton hosts a tap takeover with Florida beers on the menu, including brews from Cigar City and Swamp Head to name a few. The takeover starts at 7 p.m.
WOB Hosts a Florida Tap Takeover -- World of Beer in Coconut Creek will turn over the taps to Florida brews -- like Holy Mackerel Panic Attack and Native Lager to name a few -- at 7 p.m.
Wednesday:
Tap 42 Hosts a Florida Tap Takeover -- Yep. Another option for a Florida brew tap takeover. This one is at new Fort Lauderdale restaurant Tap 42. The takeover is 7 to 9 p.m.
Thursday:
"Almighty Bacon" Cooking Classes -- Just in time for your Superbowl parties, Publix Apron's Cooking Schools will offer cooking demos on ways to use this popular pork product to create savory and sweet bites. The class is 6:30 p.m. at the Plantation school. The cost is $45. If you can't make this class, the demo will be available again at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 31 at the Boca Raton school.
Dogfish Head Tap Takeover at the Coffee District -- This Delray Beach coffeehouse/craft beer emporium will turn control of its taps to Dogfish Head Brewery from 7 to 10 p.m. Rumored to make an appearance are favorites like Burton Baton and the highly prized 120 Minute IPA.
Friday:
Pint for a Pint Blood Drive -- Florida Blood Centers will team with World of Beer in Coconut Creek for a blood drive/free beer promotion. If you donate a pint of blood at the on-site "big red bus" you'll get a voucher for a free pint of select draft beer and other loot. The event is 6 to 10 p.m. and judging from the donating blood plus alcohol equation, it would be highly advisable to secure a safe ride home in advance.
Saturday:
Sixth Annual Jupiter Craft Brewers Festival -- Advance tickets for this outdoor fest at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter have sold out, but 1,500 tickets will be available at the gate (if you want a chance at one, arrive early and come with $35 cash in hand). The 21 and older event is 1 to 5:30 p.m. and more than 100 craft beers will be available to sample. Can't get through the gate? Craftoberfest is 2 to 7 p.m. in the Abacoa Amphitheater just across the street. The free festival is open to all ages with German food, music, and a beer tent for the adults.
Stone Crab and Seafood Festival -- This is a free festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Riverside Hotel in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Local restaurants will be selling an assortment of seafood dishes.
