As you shake off your post-Halloween sugar and alcohol crash -- and hang out the "sexy tax code specialist" costume to dry from the weekend's deluge -- rest assured that there are still plenty of fun food and drink events in the forecast for the week and weekend. And hell, after nearly a week of soggy, absolutely crap-tastic weather it looks like South Florida may be in store for the kind of skies that will allow you to comfortably leave the house without a canoe.
For instance, you can celebrate Day of the Dead -- or Dia de los Muertos -- today and tomorrow (and even into Thursday) at one of the events included in Clean Plate Charlie's round up of Day of the Dead events in South Florida. Or check out one of these food and drink related events this week in Broward and Palm Beach Counties:
Wednesday:
Food truck rally in Miramar -- Twenty trucks will roll into town for a rally at Miramar Square Mall, 12162 Miramar Parkway. The rally is 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and rally regulars like Cheese Me, Slow Food Truck, and Sugar Yummy Mama will be in attendance.
Meet wine producer Alex Elman -- Whole Foods Market in Coral Springs will host winemaker Alex Elman -- of Alex Elman Wines -- from 5 to 7 p.m. The wine is a draw in and of itself, but Elman's story is also a compelling reason to stop by on your way home from work. The winemaker has spent most of her life working with wine, but after losing her sight at 27, she discovered that her palate was even more refined than it had been previously. She now travels the world with Hanley, her seeing eye dog, in pursuit of her wine passion.
Food trucks in Cypress Creek -- The weekly Cypress Creek food truck round-up includes B.C. Tacos, Big Kahuna, Mac'n, Mangia Mia, Ms. Cheezious, El Rincon del Coqui, Sugar Rush, and Truckin' Good Pizza. The rally is 5 to 9:30 p.m. at 6001 Powerline Rd. in Fort Lauderdale. Parking is free, but bring cash for the trucks.
Screening of "The Rum Diary" -- Check out Johnny Depp's latest foray into Gonzo territory with a screening of "The Rum Diary" followed by a party with salsa dancers and rum cocktails. A $20 admission gets you a movie ticket, two Bacardi Oakheart cocktails, popcorn, and post-film entertainment. The event is 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Muvico Parisian 20 in West Palm Beach. The event benefits the Palm Beach International Film Festival.
Sunset Green Market at Glades Plaza in Boca Raton -- If the traditional morning farmer's market doesn't mesh with your lifestyle, try the evening market from 4 to 8 p.m. at Glades Plaza, in the south parking lot behind Hooters. You'll find an assortment of fresh produce, baked goods, and other assorted bric a brac.
Thursday:
12th Annual Best of Boca & Beyond -- Thirty local restaurants will showcase their offerings at this fundraising event from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Shops at Boca Center, 5050 Town Center Circle. Admission also gets you specialty cocktails and wine. Tickets are $40 and proceeds go to Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation.
