To look at this weekend's list of South Florida dining -- and drinking -- events, you'd be forgiven for thinking Clean Plate Charlie has a minor obsession with beer. To that we say...and your point is? From the all-American pairing of beer and baseball to traditional German beer shenanigans, this weekend's offerings are soaked in barley and hops and ready to rock. After the jump find five dining events this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

1. Masskrugstemmen (beer-stein-holding contest)
The New Times' Rebecca Dittmar recently scoped out this classic German competition at the American German Club of the Palm Beaches in Lake Worth to report back with images of the contestants hard at work. There's another round tonight for those who want to throw their hat in the ring, or simply spectate. Find details about (and images of) the event here.

2. Baseball & Brews
Is there anything more American than watching a baseball game with a cold beer in hand? If you can rip yourself away from the 2012 Olympics coverage long enough to take in a different sort of competition you'll be able to sample a wide assortment of craft beers available at the second annual Baseball & Brews on Saturday at Roger Dean Stadium. Read more about the event here.

3. Summer of Sam with Samuel Adams
World of Beer in Coconut Creek will throw out the welcome mat for Samuel Adams on Sunday afternoon with an outdoor party with brews, burgers, hot dogs, and chips. The action starts at noon and includes raffles and games.

4. Arts, Eats, Beats, and Treats
Every Saturday night during the summer Downtown at the Gardens hosts a mixed cultural event from 7 to 10 p.m. with live music and art on display. The 'plex is home to restaurants like Texas de Brazil, The Dirty Martini, Yard House, RA Sushi, and Cabo Flats, where you can fuel up on food and booze pre- or post-stroll. Find more information on the event here.

5. Wine & All That Jazz
The Boca Raton Resort will this weekend (sort of) open its hard-to-get-in doors for The Boca Festival Days' annual Wine & All That Jazz. The event is 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and includes more than 100 wines, plus food tastings from restaurants like Bogart's Bar & Grill, Deck 84, Blue Martini, Brio Tuscan Grille, Red The Steakhouse, Rosso Italia, Oceans 234, Truluck's, and more. Tickets start at $50. Call 561-395-4433.
