Last night marked the opening of PL8 on Himmarshee Street in Fort Lauderdale. PL8 is the new, small plate-concept restaurant from owner Dave Nicholas and chef Brandon Whitestone formerly of the now closed Himmarshee Grille. PL8's menu features economic downturn-friendly, small plate
items that can be shared with friends or enjoyed solo.
At PL8, typical, late night standards like
pizza, chicken wings, and skewers have been reworked and upgraded with
the help of fresh ingredients, artisanal products, and condiments like purple kimchi, violet mustard, and pineapple ponzu.
The small,
glowing brick oven that catches your eye as you slip into the revamped
space is used to prepare PL8's chicken wings and meatballs as well as
for their signature pizzas like the Rock Shrimp and Chorizo pizza with
roasted red peppers, feta, and basil. Other menu items include spicy Korean
short ribs, braised chicken tacos, and grilled rare wahoo.
In addition to a variety of beer and wine, reinvented cocktails like The Socialite, the elderberry liquor-laced cousin of the mojito, and Himmarshee Grille favorites like the popular Cucumber-Watermelon Martini can be found on PL8's
cocktail menu.
Plate prices range from $3 to $12 dollars. Cocktails are priced from $7 -$18 dollars.
