A 31-year-old man threw a hot dog at Tiger Woods at yesterday's golf tournament at CordeValle in San Martin, California, as he ran toward the seventh green. The motive is unclear: perhaps a phallic reference to Woods' epic infidelities?
Woods was getting ready for his putt, said the golfer. "Next thing I know, he laid on the ground and looked like he wanted to be arrested, because he... put his hands behind his back and turned his head," said Woods. The man was taken in for disturbing the peace but will not be jailed, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza.
Woods joins an illustrious group of food fight victims, or some variation thereof. After the jump, today's list.
Twenty-five students were arrested in November 2009 for an incident that involved cookie torpedoes, orange grenades, and apple bombs: an incident big enough that it made national news for the size of the fight and the arrests.
4. Flight attendant's pretzel pelting
This past July, a man en route from L.A. to Utah lit up an electronic cigarette midflight on Southwest Airlines. Enraged when he was told he could not use the device, he pelted the attendant with peanuts and pretzels as well as aimed for the cockpit door. As he was reprimanded, he left his seat to slam doors of the overhead compartments. He was arrested upon landing in Salt Lake City.
3. Sarah Palin's tomato thrower
At a book signing at the Mall
of America in Minnesota in 2009, a 33-year-old man named Jeremy Wobbe was
arrested for dropping two tomatoes from a second-floor balcony with the
intention of hitting the former VP candidate.
2. Regis Philbin's buttercreaming
When the host of Live With Regis and Kelly stopped by Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro's bakery, Philbin was unimpressed with the chefs' frosting skills. They stage annoyance that results in a flour and frosting fight. Click here for the show.
1. Rupert Murdoch's pie in the face
While testifying in front of
Parliament this past summer over employee incidents of phone hacking and
bribery, Rupert Murdoch was pied in the face by Johnny Marbles, a
comedian turned activist. Murdoch joins a prolific group of pie-in-the-face recipients that includes Bill Gates, designer Calvin Klein, populist Ralph Nader, Sylvester Stallone, and columnist and author Thomas Friedman.
