And according to Zagat, the best food in Broward is at.....

LaSpada's Hoagies.

Yep, a sub shop beat out Eduardo de San Angel, Casa d' Angelo, La Brochette, and Canyon for the honors of top food rating in Broward County. Surely, that's a sign of the times.

Of course, if it had to be any sub shop, LaSpada's would be the one. For my money, there's no better hoagie around (I love you, meat blanket).

Also receiving top honors in Broward: La Brochette for service; Cero for decor; and LaSpada's, again, for best bang for the buck.

In Palm Beach, 11 Maple was the Zagat surveyor's pick for top food, eclipsing even Cafe Boulud, whose chef de cuisine Zach Bell has twice been nominated for a James Beard. Top decor went to the Sundy House and service went to the Four Seasons, while Sloan's Ice Cream got the nod for best bang for the buck. What, no Tacos al Carbon?

The survey mentions that people in South Florida are dining out less

(down to 3.2 times per week, same as the national average), and most

are saying deals are out there. But South Florida remains one of the

msot expensive places to eat in the country (see our review of Bash for more on the subject). The average cost of a meal is $39.86, behind only Las Vegas, New York City, and Long Island.
