Honey, Sub-Culture's Newest Nightlife Concept, Opens in Downtown Delray Beach

From Dada to Camelot to Kill Your Idol, Sub-Culture Restaurant Group's got almost all the markets covered. The ever-expanding empire is launching its latest nightlife concept, Honey, set to open on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach later this month.

According to Honey partner Scott Frielich, the new spot will add just a little more "hip" to the downtown Delray Beach scene. He describes it as a "sophisticated lounge meets nightclub," something he and partner Rodney Mayo hope will change the nightlife landscape of the city's downtown area.

Indeed, Honey will be making a bold statement this season as it opens for business at 16 E. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach on Thursday, October 30.

"Honey is more than a great nightclub; it's an experience for a broader range of clientele," says Frielich, part of the Sub-Culture family. "We are the perfect trifecta: a sexy lounge space, impressive dining and cocktails, and a refreshing and modern approach to music."

Honey won't just be about the late-night crowd. Doors open early, 5 p.m., meaning crowds are expected in the early evening as well. The idea is for clients to enjoy the farm-to-table small plates bar menu developed by James Beard award-winning chef Nick Morfogen and craft cocktails by Angela Dugan (named New Times' 2014 Best Bartender).

The Saladino Design Studio pulled together all of the intimate charm of a New York-style speakeasy and paired it with the energy and highest-quality sound system available to create the ultimate location for mixing and mingling.

So, what about the music? Don't expect hip-hop, Top 40 hits, or dubstep. Resident DJ Misha Samson describes Honey's playlist as more refined than what you'll find in other late-night venues -- with a supper-club, VIP feel.

Here, the after-work crowd can relax and unwind to the sounds of a rotating pool of talented South Florida musicians, says Samson.

"There will be a lot of alt and indie dance music, contemporary dance, deep house, and retro-type stuff," Samson, founder of Nu Sound Entertainment based in Fort Lauderdale, explains. "The demographics are the 30s set, so think some '80s and '90s hits. When we're talking about DJ'ing, music is coming full circle again. We're getting back to music produced with live instruments and away from electronic synthesizers."

Catch Samson -- who is a resident DJ for places like Stache, the W Hotel, Kapow!, YOLO, Vibe, and S3 -- at Honey on Saturday nights, and the night of the grand opening.
