It's rare I get to have fun with a name exuding such a tremendous degree of awesomeness as Bossacucanova. And yet here it is. Try it out for yourself; just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

But the Rio de Janeiro-based group has much more going for it than just a really fun name to pronounce. Polishing and refinishing the traditional, easy flowing Brazilian sounds of bossa nova with a modern touch lent by the influence of electronica, Bossacucanova dub their fusion a "respectful but imaginative blend." Imaginative it certainly is, lending modern beats and rhythms to the jazzy, swaying melodies. And if you got any more laid back than you feel listening to these dulcet grooves, you'd be the feet staring in a Corona ad.

Check them out this Friday just outside the AAA (in the East Plaza, to be exact) for part of a killer celebration of all things Brazilian that kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Capoeia demonstrations, dancers, drummers and food are just some more reasons to join the fun, put together to celebrate a new sidewalk and landscaping design for the Biscayne Boulevard New World Design conceived by Roberto Burle Marx.
