On the eve of Independence Day, while some Americans prep grilling stations and gather fireworks, another contingent will celebrate its right to rave. Yes, rave! Showing that there are no hard feelings two centuries and change after our nation severed itself from England, two British masters of dark drum 'n' bass will set the tone for all comers at the third-annual Freedom Fest. Ed Rush & Optical, often coined as the godfathers of techstep and hardcore jungle, will be shooting off their own version of musical fireworks. Founders of the legendary electronic label Virus, Ed Rush & Optical have spread the dark and heavy DnB gospel for well over 15 years.
Filling out the roster are a couple of Americans with Florida ties. DJ
Icey and Baby Anne -- the closest thing to royalty in the breakbeat
community -- will salute the United States of Breaks with bass-driven,
high-octane DJ sets. Bring out the red, white, and blue glow sticks, and
let freedom ring throughout the dance floor.
Ed Rush & Optical, with DJ Icey, Baby Anne, Juan Basshead, Kryteria,
Big Boy, Disidente, MC Jumanji, and the Nome. 10 p.m. Saturday, July 3,
at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $19.
