Band-breaking showcases don't get any bigger than College Media Journal's Music Marathon (aka CMJ). Sure, the Austin-based South by Southwest has more than a few moments to its credit. And yes, Miami's own Winter Music Conference can sometimes even be counted on as a place to break new now sounds. But the former's little bit of indie heaven and the latter's DJ-driven onslaught have neither the breadth nor the depth of CMJ. Plus, CMJ is in New York. And that's still the capital of the music industry, even in this age of the Internets.

So when a band gets the nod to play on one of CMJ's many-venued stages, they're undoubtedly more than a little thrilled by the notion. After all, every show has the potential of creating the Next Big Thing. And no matter how ultra-uber-indie an act claims to be, everybody wants to be the Next Big Thing.

So it is with great good hope that Miami is sending two of its absolute finest outfits up to the Big Bad Apple. And it is with great good anticipation that we await the results of their showings. See, we'd like to at last be known for more than booty music (not that there's anything wrong with that), and these two acts could do just that.

We're talking about Awesome New Republic and organicArma. ANR's got a

second LP called Hearts just about to unleash. And organiArma is

marking the completion of their 15-date U.S. tour with Fischerspooner

with an EP entitled Awarned. oA also is celebrating the fact that back

in July MSN Music named them Emerging Artist of the Month. While ANR

recently ended a very long and prosperous residency at The Florida Room.

Everybody with any kind of sense down here in the MIA already knows how keen these two bands happen to be. Let's see how keenly the Big Bad Apple greets them. If they're smart, they'll proffer the proverbial open arms.
