Wax on wax on wax! Tomorrow night, Radio-Active Records revamps its monthly vinyl night with RPM.

It'll be held the last Thursday of each month and feature a wide array of DJs spinning a mix of new and classic records from several genres -- all in vinyl.

Radio-Active's co-owner Mikey Ramirez tells New Times that he's been trying to resurrect the popular wax night for a while and just now has gotten the chance.

"We were doing it for a bit about a year ago, focusing on 'boutique' (i.e. Factory, 4AD, etc.) labels and while it was fun, the night sort of fizzled out due to lack of promotion and other variables," said Ramirez about the defunct all-vinyl night.

This time around, Radio-Active will be offering more incentives. "We've teamed up with our friends from the Fillmore and Revolution Live, and we will be giving away tickets each month for various shows." Customers just have to make the purchase of a new LP to enter to win tickets, according to Ramirez.

"As per usual, we'll be offering free vittles for our supporters," he adds. That means we should expect the same Radio-Active Records amenities, including free pizza, free admission and BYOB. "Just wanted to re-create a night to have good vibes all year round."

Ramirez tells us he will be inviting a different DJ to play each month. "DJs of all genres are welcome, doesn't matter, but all the music has to be on wax." For the kickoff RPM, Mikey himself will sit behind the decks, going by his rather straightforward handle DJ Mikey R. "I know, I know, I don't have a cool name," jokes Ramirez. "Someone suggested once I go by DJ Old Spice, since I'm old and I look like like I'm 18."

RPM, a monthly vinyl night starts tomorrow, Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m., at Radio Active Records, 845 N Federal Hwy,, Fort Lauderdale. Free Admission. For RPM bookings contact: [email protected]. Visit Facebook.
