Even without the Black Lips, the 2012 edition of the Bruise Cruise is already shaping up to be a boat loaded with wild abandon. We recently unveiled an initial lineup featuring cruise newcomers the Soft Pack, the Dirtbombs, and comic Neil Hamburger, along with vets Thee Oh Sees, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, and DJ Jonathan Toubin. Today, we add the man who is Tom Jones, James Brown, and Blowfly rolled into one: King Khan, and his funky, ribald backing band the Shrines. Everybody's packing into an enormous Carnival vessel from Miami to the Bahamas for a three-day adventure next February 10-13.
Be it with the Shrines, his BBQ Show duo project with Mark Sultan, or the Mighty Defenders supergroup featuring his Black Lips buddies, King Khan is always hot on the trail of a scream-along anthem. A couple of his finest examples reside below.
King Khan & BBQ Show - "Invisible Girl"
The Almighty Defenders - "Cone of Light"
King Khan & the Shrines - "Land of the Freak"
Tickets for Bruise Cruise 2 run between $695 and $760 -- a 50 percent deposit option is now available -- and are on sale right here. For an intoxicating primer on the Bruise Cruise, please read our cover story about inaugural event. In short, there's a disturbing amount of merriment passed throughout this enormous, floating party bus.
