Poor David Coverdale. Here he was, on a triumphant return to the road under the Whitesnake moniker, including a gig this past June at the gigantic O2 Arena in Dublin. With his current band, he was playing a string of well-received gigs with Judas Priest, which was slated to continue through the end of August.

But suddenly, during a Tuesday-night gig at Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater, Coverdale, suffering severe vocal chord pain, was forced to cut Whitesnake's set short. Here's what his management had to say:
"He was immediately taken to a specialist for examination. The specialist discovered that David was suffering from severe vocal fold edema and a left vocal fold vascular lesion. He was instructed to cancel all performances for the next two weeks & then undergo a further examination. The doctors told us we were fortunate this was caught at a stage where no apparent permanent damage has been caused. We therefore regretfully have to announce that Whitesnake will not be appearing on the remainder of the US tour with Judas Priest."Bummer, but Priest fans, don't worry: The band will still be performing at the Hard Rock on Monday, and still filming its live DVD at the show.
