Rick Ross has got lots and lots of money, and he wants to keep reminding you of that. Why else name his new single "Maybach Music Part 2" -- a sequel to, well, "Maybach Music?"
But damn, the unemployment rate here in Florida alone is 10.2 percent as of May. Do folks still want to hear about all this, or are weary hip-hop fans just waiting for some financial schadenfreude?
Regardless, Ross has a knack for usually picking good beats and collaborators. The track this time around has an almost jazzy, really East Coast feel -- one that suits guest star Kanye's voice particularly well here (yes, he's from Chicago, but whatever).
Sandwiched between him and a requisite verse from Lil Wayne, Ross
doesn't show up till about the two-minute mark, and almost gets
overshadowed on his own song. Still, he manages to remind us that he's
"got so many horses ******* call [him] Polo" (this is the clean
version, sorry) and that he's now "scooping any women like kitty
litter." Ross, no woman wants to be compared to little rocks clumped
with animal crap.
For the record, New Times contributor Jason Handelsman once went to
Ross' house ... no horses on those premises, although he did have a
nifty temperature-controlled marble pool deck and a landscape dotted with pineapple plants.
So. This track: yes/no? Good piece of escapism in troubled times, or inappropriate bragging? Comments, please.
