You'd think an act named "the Coral Reefer Band" wouldn't get the chance to leave the dark, dank corner of your local old-guy bar.
But when that group - even with the dorky pot joke nestled so comfortably in its title - is led by Jimmy Buffett, well then, fire up the jets. These stoners are going worldwide! Buffett maintains the blind (as well as, at times, deaf) adoration of billions of flip-flop lovers. He's created a franchise glorifying the lifestyle of a quirky little island about 200 miles south of here, even given the commercialization of the totally queer and wonderfully weird Key West. The singer and his band left paradise for the rest of the frigid world for his winter's "Lounging at the Lagoon" tour, but making their way back to South Florida very soon. Sure, we don't need as huge a dose of Margaritaville as much as say, Burlington. But sweaty, sandy South Floridians love the boozy sounds of Buffett as much as any sucker freezing his ass off up north. Buffett recorded his latest album, Welcome to Fin City, on his own Mailboat Records, recently, available in CD/DVD and CD/Blu-Ray box sets. They all include Buffett and Lionel Richie crooning to the classic party jam "All Night Long." All night is about the amount of time Fort Lauderdale's Parrotheads will be singing about cheeseburgers and salty tattoos at the BB&T Center this February 2, when the singer inspires a roomful to get silly stoned and wear bikinis in the dead of winter on an ice hockey rink. - Liz Tracy

Frank Zappa was an innovative composer and righteously outspoken defendant of freedom of speech. But did you know he was also stone cold sober?Believe it or not, the Mothers of Invention leader, Captain Beefheart cohort, and psychedelic rock Übermensch recorded tunes like "Muffin Man" and albums like Lumpy Gravy without imbibing a single mind-altering substance. We can't help but wonder: When Dweezil Zappa brings his All Zappa Revue, Zappa Plays Zappa to the Culture Room on February 2, will he uphold his father's abstinence? Doesn't, like, everybody smoke weed at this point? Plus, Dweezil has spent way too much time in the post-Phish jambake circuit to have not huffed a children party's worth of balloons filled with nitrous oxide. In 2011, Dweezil was interviewed by Spinner.com and revealed that, up to that point, he had still had never gotten drunk or smoked, in his life. But a lot can change in two years. And come February 2, we plan on cornering Dweezil Zappa and forcing him to take a urine screen. We need answers, dammit! - Matt Preira

JP Soars is not a typical blues guitarist. He has a diverse musical background that encompasses a multitude of influences. " I love T-bone Walker, Jesse May Hemphill, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Muddy Waters, Johnny Guitar Watson, Guitar Slim and Louis Jordan. But I also love Tito Puente, Miles Davis, Hank Williams, Black Sabbath and Slayer." Soars toured the globe and recorded several records with some of the most extreme metal bands in the world before finding his home in the blues! It is these attributes that are giving Soars an instantaneously recognizable style. One of the most intriguing components in Soars' musical arsenal is his use of a two-string homemade guitar that he and his brother made. ......"Its basically a plywood box, a stick, two strings and a pickup"............. By applying a modern approach to a primitive instrument Soars manages to conjure up sounds that usually leave folks in disbelief. In February 2009 Soars and His Band took home top honors in Memphis TN by winning first place in the IBC "International Blues Challenge" as well as the coveted Albert King award for most promising guitarist. That win combined with Soars' intense work ethic, pure passion for the music he plays, a constant desire to improve and a continual strive for "customer satisfaction" has allowed Soars and Company to develop themselves into an in demand international touring band that is growing day by day, week by week and year after year.
