UPDATE 3:45 P.M.:
Capt Engel says: "We found the girl. She had a copper-colored gun lookalike that's a lighter."
Did the police and school security overreact or not? "I think that they did what was right, because you don't know. If you saw this thing, it looks just like a gun. If she pulled that on me, I'd shoot her. It looks like a small gun, like a .22."
Will she be charged with anything? "There's some things you could charge her with -- disrupting a school function, things like that, but
I don't know if they are going to charge her or not. She caused a lot
of confusion, but there were no threats or anything. The detective on
the case will send it to the state attorney. We probably won't know
until tomorrow."
UPDATE 1:36 p.m.:
Capt. Dale
Engle of the Davie Police says, "We got a report of a female possibly
carrying a gun who tried to enter the library. She left the library, and
the witness lost sight of her almost immediately so we put the
neighboring schools on lockdown and are searching for a female who
possibly has a gun."
What led the witness to believe she had a
gun? "She removed something from her pocket [that looked like it may
have been a gun] and put right back in."
Asked if there had been an argument or this person was agitated, Engle said,
"There was no confrontation... I haven't gotten any information to lead me to believe that [this person was agitated]."
He declined to give an age, race, or height of the person they are looking for.
