Call it a match made in heaven.

Rick Santorum is best-known (among 20-something alt-weekly types, at least) as the evangelical homophobe who likened gay relationships to "man-on-dog" sex and consequently suffered the wrath of Dan Savage's revolting Google bomb.

Jim Naugle is known locally as the former mayor who wasn't afraid to piss people off with his strong opinions (our former reporter Bob Norman had a lovely visit with him in 2000). Those opinions have included paranoia about gay people having dirty sex in public.

Now Naugle and Santorum have come together, in the heat of the 2012 presidential race.

Naugle was at a Santorum campaign event in Coral Springs, announcing his "hearty" support for the former Pennsylvania senator. Naugle, a registered Democrat, supported family-man Mike Huckabee in the last Republican race.

Here's a feature we published about Naugle in 2007. The strongest backlash against him concerned a toilet, when the Fort Lauderdale City Commission was all set to pay a quarter-million bucks for a self-cleaning toilet on the beach. Then Naugle went and complicated things by saying he liked the toilet because it would deter "homosexual activity," which he believed was rampant in public spaces and restrooms.

The toilet plan fell through, and gay-rights activists initiated a "flush Naugle" campaign that involved sending him toilet paper. That's not all too different from sex columnist Dan Savage's response to Santorum's antigay remarks. Savage held a contest to see who could come up with the most vile definition for "Santorum." The rest, as they say...

Here are videos of Naugle and Santorum saying things that didn't exactly make gay people happy:

A very frothy mixture indeed.
