After yet another mediocre season in which they missed the playoffs and lodged themselves firmly in the middle of the draft, the Miami Dolphins have gone ahead and hired Mike Tannenbaum to be their next head of football operations.
Who is Mike Tannenbaum, you ask? He once ran the New York Jets as their general manager until some questionable decisions and signings by him caught up with the team, and he was eventually fired.
Tannenbaum, who is also a sports agent, was then scooped up by the Dolphins to be a consultant. But now he's been given a promotion and tasked to turn the Fins around.
According to Fox Sports, Tannenbaum's official title will be executive vice president of football operations, which means he'll have final say over personnel moves that current General Manager Dennis Hickey makes.
No word on if the roles will change for Hickey or for the Dolphins' executive vice president of football administration, Dawn Aponte, but the three have worked with one another before -- particularly Tannenbaum and Aponte, who go back a few years.
Tannenbaum is known for being a salary cap and financial specialist, so the move is curious -- since that's Aponte's area of expertise. But then again, it's the Dolphins.
The hire is already being met with trepidation by Dolphins fans on Twitter. The Dolphins, who have decided to keep Head Coach Joe Philbin and decided not to pursue Jim Harbaugh, have now handed the reins over to a man who didn't exactly make impact moves while with the Jets.
From 2006 to 2012, Tannenbaum made questionable draft picks, striking gold once when he drafted cornerback Darrelle Revis in 2007.
The other big names Tannenbaum brought in to play for the Jets include Brett Favre, who was clearly washed up when he arrived in New York; Tim Tebow; and Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes -- two big-name receivers who ended up being huge busts.
Tannenbaum also drafted Mark Sanchez and famously spent a first-round pick on Vernon Gholston, regarded one of the biggest first-round NFL busts in some time.
