If you've found yourself thinking lately that your life has been sorely lacking in obnoxious troglodytic sports talk radio, today is your lucky day! After being fired from 560 WQAM-AM last April following a DUI arrest (broken by New Times) that apparently included weeping, curling up in a fetal position, and jabbing fingers into his mouth to induce vomiting, sports radio personality Sid Rosenberg is back on South Florida radio waves starting this morning at 6 a.m. on 640 Sports (WMEN).
Rosenberg, who has a history of drugs, alcohol, and gambling problems that have cost him several radio jobs, tried to drive home from Tootsies Cabaret last April. He was completely trashed. Around 1:45 a.m. Hollywood police pulled him over, he fell into a fetal position, cried, puked, and was taken in. Now he's back -- again -- and, even though he's claiming sobriety, Sid promises to still be a total douche on the radio because "That's who I am."
Although a good number of South Florida sports fans dislike Sid because of his undying and insufferable loyalty to New York sports teams, like the Giants and Knicks, 640 is banking on Sid being their morning drive guy (he replaces equally insufferable Armando Salguero, who hosted 640's morning show the past two years) by drawing loyal fans and haters alike.
"He's proven, he delivers and, without overstating it, he's the first guy in South Florida who can potentially do what Neil Rogers did," [WMEN General Manager] Steve Lapa said. "He can bring an audience to three different stations."The station wanted Rosenberg on the air sooner, but he and WQAM had to iron out some contract details during his buyout to keep Rosenberg from saying bad things about his former employers on the air.
Rosenberg has always fancied himself as a "radio bad boy." He once said the U.S. women's soccer team was "a bunch of juiced-up dykes" and claimed tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams were better-suited for National Geographic than Playboy.
A real delight, this guy.
According to Sid's twitter, his first show today is packed with guests like Pat Riley, Tiki Barber, and Zach Thomas.
