U.S. Marshals surrounded 48-year-old Lyndell Davis as he did yard work in front of a Tallahassee home on Wednesday, and arrested him for the rape and robbery of a 16-year-old girl in Miami, which he allegedly committed 23 years ago.

On May 23, 1988, the teenage victim had noticed a strange male following her after she got off the bus, on her way home from an after-school job, according to a U.S. Marshals press release. She was rushed from behind and dragged into a church parking lot, where the suspect allegedly raped, robbed and threatened to kill her.

Miami-Dade police had linked Davis to the unsolved crime through a DNA match in a FBI database, according to the Marshals' release. It's not clear exactly when the MDPD made the match, but its Special Victims Bureau and Sex Crimes unit were looking for Davis for at least the past month and recently received a tip that he was in Tallahassee.

Davis was taken to the Leon County jail to await extradition to Miami.
