An 18-year-old man was arrested on four charges Tuesday -- including attempted murder -- nearly a month after he got into a fight outside a Fort Lauderdale convenience store.
The cops say Clarence Hall tossed a brick at a car windshield, causing the driver of that car to lose control, and crash into an innocent bystander.
That innocent bystander "nearly lost his life," according to Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Travis Mandell, but his leg was amputated above the knee at the hospital as a result of the crash.
Mandell says Hall was fighting with two people -- one of them a juvenile -- outside the Nada Market on the 1300 block of NW 6th Street around 2 p.m. on December 11.
When the two people went to their car to leave the market, police say Hall started kicking and hitting the car, and at one point reached into the car and started hitting the boy in the backseat.
According to the police report, the argument started in the store when Hall asked what the woman and the boy were doing in "his neighborhood and his store," and the fight broke out after Hall referred to the woman as a lesbian.
Eventually the two were about two drive off, until Mandell says Hall found a brick and hurled it into the windshield.
According to Mandell, "The shattering of glass caused [the driver] to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a bystander, Mohammad Al-Attar, pinning him against a pole in front of the store."
Al-Attar was listed in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital -- he's since recovered -- and Mandell says he "nearly lost his life as a result of Hall's actions."
Hall was arrested on Tuesday, and charged with attempted murder, burglary with assault or battery, "throwing a missile into a dwelling or vehicle," and criminal mischief.
