The Broward Sheriff's Office is getting mighty ambitious with its corruption investigation. The Sun-Sentinel is reporting that County Commissioner Sue Gunzburger is a target of agency investigators who are looking at deals that her husband's company made with Broward ten years ago.
That husband, Gerry Gunzburger, has been dead for two years, leading to this zinger of a quote from the commissioner:
"I can't answer anything since I don't know the details,'' an exasperated Gunzburger said. "Let them go after my husband. He's at Temple Beth-El cemetery.''
It's hard to keep track of all the local officials under investigation corruption, but here's what we know so far:
Broward County Commissioners Stacy Ritter, Ilene Lieberman, and Diana Wasserman-Rubin; Broward County School Board member Stephanie Kraft; Tamarac's Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco and Vice Mayor Marc Sultanof.
Tamarac Commissioner Patti Atkins-Grad has already been arrested and charged with taking bribes. At the center of the scandal, the father-son development team of Bruce and Shawn Chait, who are cooperating with investigators.
