High five, West Palm Beach!

The First Lady, Michelle Obama, has just named you a Preserve America Community -- a federally funded program that recognizes communities for their work in enhancing heritage.

Mrs. Obama sent a letter congratulating West Palm residents for their "vision and dedication."

This now makes West Palm Beach eligible for Preserve America grants which funds preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education, and historic preservation planning.

The county will be able to place Preserve America signs and logos around town, and have potential connections with other federal initiatives such as the National Tourism Strategy, America's Great Outdoors and Partnership for Livable Communities.

West Palm is being recognized for the celebration of their heritage, their community revitalization and development, and their work in supporting local heritage through tourism, education, recreation, and other social activities.
