Careful using the word plantation around Allen West supporters.
Congressional candidate Allen West lives in Plantation. West is a registered Republican. And so earlier today, when Sun-Sentinel political columnist Anthony Man called West a "Plantation Republican," the statement had some objective truth to it.

Clearly, the phrase had nothing to do with West's race or with America's shameful history of using slaves on Southern plantations.

Yet the phrase hit a nerve with West's supporters, who are fiercely protective of their candidate and who "bombarded" West campaign headquarters to complain about Man's description. Writes Man:
West has a national base of fans on the Internet. My suspicion is that those people, unlike Broward residents, may not get the geographic reference.
