After 40 years of handing out hoagies to the loyal Lauderdale-by-the-Sea residents, LaSpada's will close its doors at 4346 Seagrape Drive.

But that doesn't mean they're gone for good. They're simply moving 472 feet away to 233 Commercial Blvd. in March. Phil Kappes - LaSpada's General Manager and son of owners Harry and Gale - says the landlord is opening up a new restaurant on the southeast corner of Seagrape and Commercial Blvd. that would likely cut into their already limited parking (and maybe their business?).

They couldn't make a deal, so LaSpada's is moving across the street to a larger location that resembles its newer Boca and Fort Lauderdale stores, between 1,400-1,600 square feet. Kappes says it's more space for less money. If we have happy hoagie makers, that makes us happy hoagie eaters, right?

This was the first LaSpada's store in South Florida, opening in 1973. Since then, locations have sprouted up in Davie, Coral Springs, Boca and Fort Lauderdale.

The new store is set to open in March when the lease on the current location is up.
