After years of planning and months of delay, Fort Lauderdale's newest beachfront restaurant is opening its doors to the general public tonight. Owned by the Restaurant People -- the group that owns YOLO, Vibe, and Tarpon Bend--S3 brings a chic atmosphere with creative global eclectic cuisine and cocktails to the beach.

As part of a pre-opening event, we got the chance to snag a few photos.

Situated at ground level, directly across from the beach, the oceanfront spot offers guests unparalleled views of the water--the entire restaurant has been stacked to allow for waterfront views from every table.

Taking cues from high-end resorts in the South Pacific, the decor is filled with Southeast Asian-inspired influences. Textures vary from cool grey slate walls to warm wood and cork accents to bamboo light fixtures and warm grass cloth.

In a similar fashion to the group's other upscale dining establishment YOLO, the outdoor patio is filled with a full-service dining area, outdoor bar, and lounge with fire-pits.

The open kitchen mimics the Asian feel of the rest of the interior. Set up with an open chef's table type bar, the entire kitchen has been sunk down to allow full view for the guests.

The cocktail program sways toward the lighter side with a wide selection of fresh herbs and tropical flavors. Drinks like the Gin Tickle with Bombay Sapphire, pineapple, sage, peppercorn, and cardamom; the Blackberry Lychee, 44 North vodka, sake, blackberries, lychee, and ginger; and the S3's Sexy Summer Seduction with Pisco Porton, citrus juices, and passionfruit foam will set you back $14.

The food is global eclectic with a wide range of flavors and ingredients. With a wood-burning oven, wood grill, two saute stations, and sushi station, the menu includes a selection of small plates, large plates, and weekend brunch.

"It's been a long journey to get to this point," said the Restaurant People's Peter Boulukos, "When I moved to Fort Lauderdale at 22 years old, I lived just two blocks away from here. To be opening a place in this spot is huge."

S3 will hold its first public dinner service tonight starting at 5:30 pm. The bar opens at 4 pm. It is located in the bottom of the Hilton Beach Resort, 505 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Call (954) 523-SURF, or visit the facebook page here.
