If you've ever watched any sort of TV sitcom or sat through a bunch of commercials during a football game, you'll see that grilling is a man's domain.
Well, at least that's what the honchos at advertising agencies and scriptwriters would lead ladies to believe. That, friends, is a bunch of horse pucky. (It's a thing.)
The truth is that grilling is something that both sexes should enjoy. After all, it's all about cooking outdoors -- and women have been playing with fire as long as men have.
Robyn Medlin Lindars is making sure women take their rightful place in front of the grill. The popular GrillGrrrl.com blogger is hosting a women's grilling clinic on Saturday, May 31.
From 5 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Lindars will share her grilling wisdom in a class for "ladies only". First, the Grill Girl will go over basics like how to start a gas or charcoal grill, the pros and cons of gas vs. charcoal, creating different cooking "zones" on your grill, and how to cook everything (including sides and desserts) on your grill and host an entire outdoor dinner party without setting foot in the kitchen (except, of course, to get more wine and beer out of the fridge).
Lindars will demonstrate by preparing an entire multi-course meal and sharing recipes for a complete dinner including grilled guacamole; prosciutto-havarti jalapeno poppers; island spice port tenderloin with grilled romaine salad; cedar planked salmon; and steamer packet sweet potatoes. And, because no dinner party is complete without dessert, she'll make gourmet s'mores and a red, white, and blue berry-coconut cobbler (perfect for July Fourth parties).
The clinic is held at 1010 Tyler St. in Hollywood and costs $60 per person. Oh, and the entire clinic is BYOB (nooo...that doesn't mean bring your own BBQ). Reserve your spot at eventbrite.com.
