It's pretty much common knowledge that opening a new restaurant comes with a bunch of hiccups. It's rare for a newly built spot to actually open according to initial schedules. As is expected, that's part of the story of the newly opened Burt & Max's. The restaurant, which was originally slated to open on December 12, 2012, just opened its doors.

According to Partner Burt Rapoport, "There were some issues with construction of the center. The other part was dealing with the Palm Beach County Building Department. It was a long, arduous, frustrating process."

On Saturday, February 16, the restaurant finally opened to the public. "We're doing about half reservations and half walk-ins," says Rapoport, "I wanted to have some tables for the walk-ins. It's still getting up to an hour wait for a table. A lot of people have been hanging out at the  bar and eating or sitting around the outside fire pit."

The spot is intended to be a sister restaurant to Boca Raton's Max's Grille. The menu, which has been comprised by Chef Adam Brown, features casual new American fare. Sharing and small plates range from the $14 Mediterranean Sampler, a tray of roasted eggplant dip, marinated olives, warm pita, and cucumber & feta salad, to the $17 Ahi Tuna "Poke," diced sushi grad tuna, scallions, soy yuzu dressing, avocado, cucumber sals and crispy taro chips, or the $12 rustic chorizo fondue served with tortilla chips.

Soups, salads, and sandwiches range from the $9 Max's Classic Chopped Salad with fontiago cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, chick peas, celery, roasted corn, and French beans with red wine vinaigrette to the $15 Farm House Burger with aged cheddar, house bbq sauce, fried egg, pecanwood bacon, crispy onions, shredded lettuce, and tomato on a brioche bun.

Signature Wood Fired Pizzas run from $12 to $14, which includes the Oak Grille Chicken, Margherita, and the Blackened Shrimp with Roasted Tomatoes. Large plate range from $18 to $28 including the Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles and the Mediterranean Branzino "A la Plancha." Rapoport's calorie conscious "Eat Well. Be Well." menu is also available, as well as a range of gluten-free options.

Currently, the restaurant is open for dinner and weekend brunch with live jazz on Sunday and a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar available both days. Rapoport plans to start serving lunch this week.
