A man drove his car into Amante's Italian Cuisine located at 2068 NE Second St. in Deerfield Beach. earlier today, and the Broward New Times obtained a striking photo of the accident.

The incident occurred about 12:06 p.m. today after a man apparently drove his car straight through the restaurant's glass facade. It is not known whether the driver sustained injuries or if he has been charged with anything.

The restaurant will be closed today for cleanup, and plans to open in the next day or so. When we called, Amante's owner, Chris, said that she just arrived on the scene and was assessing the damage. When asked when she thought Amante's would reopen, she declined to comment, saying that she was "still boarding up windows".

Amante's Italian Restaurant, which shares ownership with neighboring Bob's Pizza, opened in 1975, after Nunzio and Sara Amante moved their family from the Bronx to Florida and opened a small breakfast and lunch restaurant. That restaurant morphed into Bob's Pizza, with the Amante family opening a dining room named Amante's adjacent to the pizzeria in the early 1980's. The restaurant, known by the neighborhood as Amante's Italian Cuisine and Bob's Pizza, offers live entertainment and a full liquor bar and seats 200 people.

The Broward Sherrif's Office is investigating the incident and we will update this post with further information.
