October kicks off almost immediately with Duende, a two-day event in the Downtown Himmarshee District celebrating the centennial anniversary of Broward County. I’ll be performing, along with a few DJ friends and about a million bands, in addition to the live art live dance acts that will fill out the rest of the big event. Duende should be an interesting time and a great opportunity to support local artists here in Broward.
September was a great month for new music, with this past week or two giving us a barrage of new tracks to add into our fall rotations. The Knocks and Matthew Koma dropped the iconic, California-dreaming track “I Wish (My Taylor Swift),” which immediately topped the charts on the influential aggregating website Hype Machine on the first day of its release — Another instant classic from the NYC duo.
There've also been a few great classic '90s house-style remixes that caught my attention: re-works of R&B queens Faith Evans and Amy Winehouse, plus an A-Trak collaboration with neo-soul singer Jamie Lidell on “Take Care.”
Zhu teamed up with U.K. duo AlunaGeorge for “Automatic,” making it the mysterious electronic producer's first big release since the smash hit “Faded.” This funky, deep groove is worked to perfection with Aluna’s slinky, sultry vocals on top of the track. I love the call and response singing between the male and female voices, like a dance version of The XX, eventually breaking down to half time into a slow, trap shuffle.
The other tracks that made it into my chart this month are just some
My new remix of Diplo’s “Be Right There” has also received a great response so far — take a listen if you have a chance!
I hope you like my picks. Until next month!
