Most of us have heard about the Beatles' yellow submarine. But only Broward County residents know about the pink one, namely a sub shop in Wilton Manors best-known for its comfort-food riffs on classic sandwich combinations.

Originally established in 2009 as a coffee and chocolate shop, today Pink Sub — formerly known as the Pink Submarine — is one of the more popular lunch stops off Wilton Drive. Recently, the establishment celebrated the grand re-opening of a newly remodeled and rebranded location offering an expanded menu of new subs and homemade desserts.

The Pink Sub shop is everything you'd expect: pink walls, pink-hued menu, and even a few pink frosted cookies. And although the look and feel might be different from pre-remodel, regulars will be happy to know that much of the menu has remained the same and that all the old standbys are still there.

The menu selections are still made with Boar's Head brand meats, cheeses, and homemade sauces given nautically themed names filed under categories like First Fleet, Second Fleet, and Hot & Pressed.

Of course, a few new items made it onto the menu. There's the Destroyer, a sweet-and-tangy twist on the BLT, made with thick-cut bacon, strawberry jam, lettuce, tomato, and mayo drizzled with a balsamic glaze.

More spicy selections come in the form of the Depth Charge, a combination of roast beef, baby Swiss cheese, and sriracha mayo with red onions, lettuce, and tomato, while the Pirate's Booty combines blackened turkey with Provolone cheese and a fresh mango chutney.

Creative sides include sweet cinnamon roasted beets, a mojo-spike pasta salad, and a loaded baked potato salad. And you can finish your meal with a large variety of fresh-baked and homemade desserts, another new feature to the menu. That includes fresh-baked cookies and a variety of Silk Chocolates, the restaurant's own brand of confections that offers hand-dipped, chocolate-covered Oreos, Twinkies, and dried fruits.

Pink Sub is located at 2041 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 954-566-2219, or visit EAT24.com.
