America's Backyard

America's Backyard

America's Backyard, it turns out, is nothing short of a huge pool party where the pool is swimming with bartenders and the deep end overflows with sparkling alcohol.
Ed & Elaine's Tiki Hut

Ed & Elaine's Tiki Hut

There's no door, no sign, no cash register — just a thatched-roof hut decorated with bric-a-brac and a couple of tables nestled right on the shore of the Intracoastal, hidden just south of the Dania Beach pier.
Round Up

Round Up

This good-ol'-boy bar is a needle in a haystack off 595 in the back of a strip mall. But don't be fooled by the suburban-sprawl exterior; this place is all Texas heart on the inside.

    305-674-8018

http://www.dreammia.com The motto at this luxurious SoBe nightclub is "Reality is overrated." Past the velvet rope and suited doorman awaits a large room quaking with bass. DJs - who range from mainstream FM-radio prime-timers to members of the heaviest crews in the South - play house, hip-hop, and Top 40. Scantily clad women writhe on couches, bar-tops, and a stripper pole while champagne bottles stuffed with sparklers parade by. The famous often host events here, and athletes and celebrities come to party. Read more about Dream Nightclub >>

  • The Dubliner

    The Dubliner

435 Plaza Real Boca Raton, FL 33432
    561-620-2540

http://www.dublinerboca.com Even if it's not St. Patty's Day and your heart doesn't pump green blood, there's no reason not to indulge in a little Irish living from time to time. Boca pub the Dubliner takes your liver and taste buds straight to Erin with its two-for-one deal on Guinness on Wednesdays and dishes including Guinness cheese fondue and shepherd's pie. Located in the ultraposh Mizner Park, the Dubliner boasts a beautiful mahogany décor and bar, beers from around the globe, indoor and outdoor tables, and communal counters that resemble upscale cafeteria seating. Befriending other customers is a snap, especially during karaoke night. Local bands and performers frequently grace the stage. Tuesdays include trivia night, and Monday's karaoke night includes a free first drink for those who participate. How's that for incentive to take your act from the shower to the stage? • The Duck Tavern

    The Duck Tavern

5901 N. Federal Highway Boca Raton, FL 33487
    561-998-8288

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Original-Duck-Tavern/137524096300208 Worlds away from the lavish establishments of Boca, the Duck Tavern is where the hard drinkers about town choose to knock back a cold one. The interior looks a little dilapidated, but in a good way. Barstools are a bit torn, old newspaper write-ups grace the exposed-brick wall, and cigarette smoke permeates the air. Outside Boca's standards, the Duck is hardly a dive. Customers have tons of sitting space, and the bar serves countless exotic beers from places like Chile, Japan, Ethiopia, and Israel, to name just a few. The bartenders are friendly but definitely emit the take-no-shit attitude that coincides with the Duck's sometimes-downtrodden clientele. The Duck also offers great specials, perks, and events like half-off drinks if you wear a Duck Tavern shirt on Monday. Bottomless drafts on Wednesday and Saturday, Wi-Fi for those who can drink and work simultaneously, and free poker tournaments on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays -- buy-in is at 8 p.m. Read more about The Duck Tavern >>

  • Dudes G2

3270 NE 33rd St. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308
    561-598-8029

http://www.myspace.com/DudesBarFl The name may be slightly ambiguous, suggesting that perhaps the spot is a dwelling place for sandy stoners, but the first thing you'll see upon entering Dudes is a black-and-white poster of a gorgeous young man sliding his briefs down farther below his ripped abs than a Calvin Klien ad would allow. This doorman sets the proper mood to enjoy more of the same on the TV screens and to sip signature drinks like "Blackbeard on a Diet" with other stimulated fellows at the bar or in the more secluded sofa areas. As patrons mingle, the nightly entertainment escalates the mood. The happy hour piano player starts things off and is followed by dancers and a drag show on Fridays. Dudes is an excellent place to be a dude... if you're into dudes. Read more about Dudes G2 >>

    Duffy's Sports Grill

1804 Cordova Road Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
    954-713-6363

http://www.duffysmvp.com Typical of South Florida sports-bar excess, Duffy's piles it on in every way: Huge, heart-stopping piles of meat. Flat-screens covering every conceivable surface showing every competitive match from around the globe. Nubile waitresses clad in gimmicky outfits. In its previous incarnations (Red Zone, Original Steakhouse) not much was different. Ribs, chicken wings, quesadillas and the rest are totally serviceable, like you'd expect from a big restaurant that's part of a big chain: it all feels more than a bit impersonal and impenetrable. But there's plenty of beer, a swell happy hour setup, and sports, sports, and more sports. What else do you want, a hug? Read more about Duffy's Sports Grill >>
