http://www.nakava.com It's South Florida's oldest Kava Bar, but it doesn't show. Decorated with bamboo, war masks, and plant life, you'll have plenty to look at as you're hammering down that thick "tasty" kava treat. If kava isn't your thing, there's a hookah bar and plenty of old school games to keep you occupied. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.nakedgrapewinebar.com Pairing exquisite wines and cheeses is already an art form. So when we admit that the Naked Grape elevates it even further, we're not sure what to call it. Oeneriffic? Fromagasmic? With 40 wines by the glass (rotating on a menu that changes every fortnight), your waiter will direct you to some of the more potent combinations. And he'll do that while you're bathed in cozy, romantic candlelight. Additionally, you'll be bombarded with unfamiliar wines, since the vast majority are from small-batch boutique wineries. That's not to say the Grape won't let you quaff an ale - on the contrary, it's well-stocked with domestic micros and specialty imports. In 2008, New Times named Naked Grape the best place to meet intelligent gay men so you may want to wear those horn-rimmed glasses and the tweed sweater with elbow patches. We've seen no signs of dumbing down. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
Nan's Hideaway is really hidden. Deep in a shopping plaza, not visible from Federal Highway, the building that houses the bar is so nondescript, it would look abandoned, or at least closed, if not for the back-lit sign above with the bar's name. But what effort it doesn't put into dazzling patrons from the outside it puts into good bartending and good company on the inside. Nan's Hideaway was originally Ed's Hideaway, and when Ed died, his wife, Nan, took over. But what she didn't change was the atmosphere, which mixes smoke, smoke, and more smoke with retro décor, strong drinks, and early boozers - the bar attracts the prework set at 7 a.m. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.nativeflorida.net There's no sign outside alerting you to this Hollywood music venue and fine brew hot spot. But somehow you'll find your way into the Native Florida Tap Room and Music Hall. The venue is owned by Carl "Kilmo" Pacillo, whose beloved venue Alligator Alley closed in 2009. Since its doors opened, Native Florida Tap Room has booked a solid lineup of musical acts, featuring blues, rock, jazz, punk, funk, and folk, both by locals and out-of-towners. The comfortable bar sports an impressive array of microbrews, craft beers, and cider, both bottled and with 18 options on tap. Don't forget your cash, shirt, and shoes. These are required. Oh, and your taste for live music. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.seminolecoconutcreekcasino.com The Coconut Creek Casino isn't just about gambling. The venue's Nectar Lounge provides a high-energy environment for live musical performances, savory cocktails, and sushi. A long marble bar winds through the front with a platform stage behind. Colorful light boxes illuminate the back wall of the stage, many filled with various top-shelf liquors. Red geometric shapes dangle above the scattered tables in the low-lit bar, and a brown leather booth divides the room. A circular portion of the side bar has electronic gambling machines in case someone wants to try her luck. With happy-hour specials, a variety of musical acts, and a 6 a.m. closing time, the Nectar Lounge is rarely quiet. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
After closing and then reopening in 2010, this rather generically monikered watering hole still enjoys broad appeal. The nightly supercheap drink specials draw drinkers in, the HD projection screens further numb 'em up, and by the time your chicken nachos or Nathan's hot dog or cheeseburger arrives, you're probably in a less-than-discerning mood. http://www.newmoonbar.com The motto at New Moon Bar is "come as you are," and the mostly female crowd's hospitable attitude certainly reflects it. Located in the heart of Wilton Manors, New Moon bar provides a casual place for the lesbian community to socialize amid the male-dominated bars on Wilton Drive. Although the interior décor is nothing special - it mimics that of any local hangout -- the eclectic bargoers and diverse mix of people make up for it. The bar is divided into two sections. The main room has all the traditional bar offerings such as a jukebox, pool, and a spacious dance floor. The outdoor patio provides a quieter and more intimate setting for those looking to get to know one another. From karaoke nights to dance parties and the occasional live music act, each night at New Moon offers a little bit of something for everyone. http://www.the55thstreetstation.com/thenews/default.asp This lounge, located in the 55th Street Station complex owned by Mark Soyka, is Miami's hangout mecca for local artists, musicians, pro skateboarders, writers, and Scrabble enthusiasts. It's mainly a nighttime lounge and bar, but it also serves salads, sandwiches, and appetizers. One of the most popular dishes is the sliders ($8 for two), made with Angus beef patties, smoked cheddar, bacon, sautéed onions, and chipotle ketchup. Another recommended dish is the tuna tartare ($11): Raw ahi tuna comes served with avocado, sesame seeds, soy dressing, sriracha sauce, and country bread. The News Lounge is an ideal place to begin your night, with daily 5-to-9 p.m. happy-hour specials including $3 Heinekens and $6 Bacardi mojitos. The décor is industrial/art deco, featuring '30s movie posters, mannequins on old-fashioned bicycles, and copper fittings from downtown buildings. Guests can sit inside at tables or on couches, or outside on a bed or rocking chair, among other options in their garden area. On a quiet night, head to the pool table in the back; it's perfect. Looking for a place to unwind and dance with your shoes off, all while singing along to the best of Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson? Nick's on the Hollywood Broadwalk is that bar. Constructed out of stone and directly across from the beach, the open-air venue feels as though it has been transported right from Key West. Tank-topped and bathing-suit- clad patrons clutch frozen drinks, stumbling about the impromptu dance floor, trying their best to hit all the right notes. In addition to a wide variety of tropical delights, the beer selection features 20 brands. A night out at Nick's is much like the Hollywood locals partying inside: no frills. http://www.nippersbarandgrill.com If you're not actually serenading your significant other to Neil Diamond or Madonna at karaoke, you could live vicariously through the delivery guy, who will hand over your bar-food favorites from Nippers all the way until 3:30 a.m. Or you can stay out at this ultimate Boca bar until the garbage men start work; it's open until 5 a.m. On the menu: traditional fare like wings and mini burgers but also famous Nippers' nosh like the Ultimate Nachos: tortilla chips, chili, cheese, diced onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and salsa.
