http://www.shinesouthbeach.com SoBe's reputation often precedes it, but Shine is a welcoming club located near the northern border of that notoriously posh club district. Monthly parties and a friendly door staff make the chill lounge a refreshing change of pace from the hectic scene just a ways south. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
Hidden on a side street off Federal Highway's bar row in Boca, Shisha Cafe would be easy to miss if not for the hearty tobacco aromas that cloak the place. A medley of scents including apple, coconut, mango, caramel, or a blend of all greet you at least 20 feet before you reach the door. We recommend their secret blend Piece of Paradise. The inside decor continues to stimulate the senses with rich red walls and funky artwork. Shisha doesn't serve alcohol, but the popular hangout spot the Lodge shares a patio space. So grab a beer, then a hookah at Shisha and mingle with in-the-know locals somewhere in the middle. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.shooterscafe.com Shooters has been one of Fort Liquordale's stomping grounds since it anchored on the Intracoastal in 1982. The casual, fun atmosphere is known to heat up over the weekends during the Hot Bod contests at the pool next door. And wild times abound at the annual Halloween costume contest and party. Shooters serves decent American comfort food, but it's the waterfront view and fun atmosphere that really bring people to the tables. For those who drink like a fish, the bar mixes awesome fishbowl-sized cocktails. Grab a dockside table to catch a glimpse of the Florida boating lifestyle: Rows of yachts and cigarette boats tie up here, creating a scene like no other in Liquordale. http://www.sidelinessports.com Sidelines is Wilton Manors' only bona-fide gay/les sports bar. An island bar is situated near the front door, and another stretches along the left wall. Grizzly older men take part in an intense poker games at the front of the room while baby-faced boys tease the bartenders and dance to the pulsating pop music. Brawny bartenders man both bars, which feature several dozen flat-screen TVs. An impressive collection of autographed Marlins stuff, framed baseball cards, Miami Heat jerseys, World Series newspaper clippings, hats, bowling paraphernalia, and fluorescent beer signs pepper the walls, which have been painted a cheerful shade of Miami Hurricanes green. http://www.singerskaraoke.com Located in a non-descript strip mall in Pompano Beach, Singers is a karaoke dive bar that lets you unleash your inner rockstar. Test run the club with a one day $5 membership, or pay the lifetime membership fee of $30 to sing your heart out six nights a week. Unlike going to a devoted karaoke night at other bars, Singers allows each participant to perform two songs in a row each turn. Most weekends, you won't wait longer than an hour to sing. Inside the uniquely circular Citibank building, a marble stairway leads to Sky Nightclub, a discotheque filled with an eclectic crowd partaking in all sorts of dance-floor debauchery. A mural of clouds and blue skies adorns the ceiling; it's no Sistine Chapel, but it's quite fitting for the venue's name. Glitzy chandeliers dangle above the dance floor, bouncing neon lights and strobes onto the mirrored walls. Stairs lead down to a large dance floor that's surrounded by two bars and enormous Mount Olympus-like marble columns. The floor is filled with leather-clad sweaty bodies gyrating to new-wave hits and gothic beats. Off to the left is a VIP-like area filled with red velvet couches and tiny candlelit tables, often occupied by young lovers getting to know each other. Sky Nightclub's contemporary décor and unconventional-yet-hip crowd makes for an interesting addition to the surrounding Oakland Park area. http://www.slackersbarandgrill.com Slackers fills the much-needed gap of a neighborhood bar in the Southland Shopping Plaza in Fort Lauderdale, and it shows. On any given weeknight, the bar is packed with regulars enjoying daily happy-hour specials at extremely reasonable prices. In addition to the 4-to-7 p.m. happy hour, most nights boast cheap drinks and specials on shots. The bartender recommends the Baby Guinness shot: Patrón Café with a Bailey's floater. Most shopping-center bars are cramped holes in the wall, but Slackers is spacious. The requisite sports banners and memorabilia hang on the walls, along with 30 flat-screen televisions of various sizes. There is also a full menu with burgers, sandwiches, salads, and wings. http://www.slaintepubs.com/cms/ With all of the benefits of a traditional Irish pub (deep rustic wood interiors, Irish blessings donning the walls, Guinness on tap, Jameson by the bottle and the occasional cursing at the bar) and none of the drawbacks that haunt a long-standing establishment (iron lung from smoke stench, general collective misery) this pristine bar and restaurant excels as an upbeat space for live music, decent Irish fare, live sporting event broadcasts and general good times. Standards include an Irish Stew (made with beef and lamb tips, caramelized onions, carrots and red bliss potatoes) and Bangers and Mash (traditional Irish sausage served grilled with sauteed onions, potatoes and pan gravy). The menu steers away from Ireland on a few occasions with options like the B.E.L.T. (That's bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato served on wheat bread with a dollop of mayo) and the Garden Vegetable Burger (Marinated zucchini, yellow squash, roasted red pepper and two parmesan breaded portabella mushroom caps that double as a bun) Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.smartypantsbar.com Pull up a stool at Smarty Pants and observe fellow drinkers. The cute bartenders are a nice addition to the scene, and $2.25 well and domestic drinks are offered seven days a week at this Wilton Manors establishment. Friday and Saturday provide karaoke entertainment. During Bingo on a Sunday night, you could win a free bar tab to come back at a later time. Enjoy a Sunday sports tailgate party with beer specials. Whether you prefer a sophisticated gentleman, sports buff, or a metrosexual, you'll have a good time. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
Finally, a place where smokers don't have to feel ostracized. Smoke Café, nestled in a colorful, Old Florida plaza off A1A and Oakland Park, offers its customers more than 100 types of cigars, along with hookah tobacco. The hearty aroma wafts around the entrance, greeting you at the door or as you walk by to other neighborhood businesses like Bruce's Tattoo shop or the famous Café Martorano. The wooden décor and wall-sized wine rack give the small space a cozy yet sophisticated feel. In a not-so-sophisticated turn, customers can also power up the Wii for some videogame fun. Smoke Café doesn't serve liquor, but it carries wine, 50 kinds of beer, and sake. Free food is served on Monday and Tuesday with the purchase of smokes or drink. From the outside, Smugglers looks like another divey sports bar. But walk in and the room doubles in size and stretches far into the back, where a few tables are segregated in a small, quaint restaurant area. More tables fill the spacious area toward the front. For a sports bar, Smugglers' layout couldn't be more comfortable. There's not much seating, except for the tables, but there's standing room aplenty. Two pool tables, college team flags, no-stakes slot machines, an electronic dartboard, and four well-placed flat screens decorate the space. Come for the cheap beer and wings.
