http://www.thevagabondmiami.com The outskirts of Miami's Overtown hood are becoming a gentrified version of the Sunset Strip in LA. This club's DJ plays Bad Brains, as skate videos are projected onto a large outdoor movie screen. Any questions? Famous UK DJ John Digweed is one of the owners, we voted it the Best New Bar in 2008, and the Bad Girls Club Miami filmed a chick fight here last year. http://www.thevandykecafe.com Sibling to the News Café sisters, this open-air eatery is the quintessential sidewalk café. Order up some people-watching along with your thick, fluffy quiches, your platter of pté and Brie, your whole-wheat pizza. No matter what you choose from the comprehensive menu, you'll no doubt be amused by the constant Lincoln Road parade. Or take in the live jazz upstairs. Outdoor seating. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. http://www.vegascabaret.com This neighborhood strip joint may not boast all the glitz of a Scarlett's or a Cheetah, but it certainly does the trick. Circle the main stage, or sit at one of two bars and wait for the girls to gyrate down the middle. VIP booths provide a more private experience, but the main room offers the two-songs-for-$20 lap dance special. Unlike many strip clubs, drinks are strong and reasonably priced, and check the schedule for themed nights. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
Amid the colorful array of bars and restaurants on the downtown Hollywood strip is Venom, a new rock ’n’ roll club. Surrounded by an iron gate, the outdoor bar area is filled with comfy seating and tables. Inside the rather large venue, a bar illuminated by twinkle lights fills up one side of the room where barstools wrap around in. Toward the back is a stage where various live bands, both metal and cover, play several nights of the night. The walls are painted bright purple and adorned with music and beer memorabilia. In addition to pool tables and jukeboxes to hold your attention, there are several nightly specials and events. Venom Rock Bar is completely casual, and the folks inside have an anything-goes, no-holds-barred attitude. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.vibelasolas.com Brought to us by the same people who gave us YOLO and O Lounge, Vibe offers much of the same swank you've come to expect from that little plaza off Las Olas. Sculptural reliefs of curvy bodies create texture on the walls (look out for nipple-esque light fixtures above!) and reflect colors that rotate green, blue, purple, and yellow. Live bands play five out of six days. Mondays, though, are manic with '80s nostalgia. You'll hear Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Tony, Toni, Tone, among others. The few screens, one by the DJ booth and others in the bar, don't show sports or news. In a fun twist, you get to watch the music video for the song you're listening to. Also on Mondays, the two-for-one special applies to everything except specialty drinks, of which we strongly suggest trying the Smokey Mango or Pom Pom Pleasure. http://www.villa221.com/Villa/Villa221.html Villa 221 is a multifaceted event space, and weekend party hangout. Between hosting weddings, after parties, and bar friendly food truck events, there are beer pong competitions, and one-off club nights. The decor is impeccable, chic, and luxury based. The location is very central in the city of Miami, and adjacent to the 14th street club corridor, and the downtown entertainment district. http://www.villagegrille.com Upscale but located in the beach hub of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, the dimly lit Village Pump serves a casual crowd that doesn't want to skimp on its booze or food. The great drinks slide across a marble bar, the wine list is more than adequate, and the food comes from its sister restaurant the Village Grill, located next door. Sports dominate the TV, the music doesn't stray much from the standard Top 40, and the crowd skews around 40-plus. If you're looking to absorb the beach breeze while sipping on some cocktails, the outdoor seating can't be beat. Bring quarters, though. Parking's a bitch. Hidden off 17th Street on Cordova, the nautical-themed Village Well caters to a mixed crowd. You're as likely to see the weathered village drunks - happy hour runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily! - as you are the snazzy Frank Sinatra wannabe or young adults watching football and playing pool. The giant bar accommodates crowds, allowing for comfortable access to the bartender's large selection, which includes wine, top-shelf liquor, and beer (ten on draft). Make sure to drop in Sunday nights when locals flex their pipes (or break glass) at karaoke. Even if the alcohol doesn't give you the courage to bare your soul singing "Love Shack" or "Sweet Caroline," like you've done a million times in your bathroom, watching the others will be just rewarding. Vino DeSantis is located in a pretty strip mall in Coral Springs. A lighted fountain in front makes it easy to spot. The front of this wine bar features a shop where bottles can be purchased. Walk through to the café area and pair one of 72 wines with one of more than 30 imported and domestic cheeses as well as other small bites, such as salami and olives. The café is a welcoming little area, with leather chairs and French-inspired décor. Live music sets an ambiance every Friday and Saturday. Attend special winetasting events every Thursday and Sunday. http://www.vladabar.com Squeezed between downtown and the Design District, VMidtown is the only gay anything in midtown Miami. It's also the most relaxed gay club in the county. Inside the inconspicuous space on NE 2nd, there's a generous bar and a small dance floor where on "Rewind Saturdays" lots of '80s music is played. Most gather in the big seating area outside, where on any given weekend there are so many guests, the sound of martini glasses threatens to drown out the clinking of crack pipes coming from around the neighborhood. While Twist is a bridge away and Discotekka has a steep cover, VMidtown is unpretentious and cover-free. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.fabiangentertainment.com It's pronounced voy-yaj -- and if that wasn't intrusive enough, it takes over everyone's favorite place, Bricks. Yeah, right. But seriously though, Voyage is brought to you by Eric Major and Omar Rosario. If those names mean nothing to you, know this: they were involved with the creation of such gems as Park West, Pawn Shop, Level, Warehouse, Crobar, and Dolce. Look out the "VIP card" system, which is meant to get the local crowd coming back -- and should mean excellent service for you. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
