http://www.facebook.com/OarHousePompanoBeach The Oar House looks like a funky little fishing shack and boasts a relaxed vibe to match. This relic of Pompano’s Old Florida past serves up steaks, seafood, and the kinds of dishes one would expect to see in a waterfront spot of this nature. The outdoor covered deck, and a few picnic tables near the canal, are where the action (and the occasional breeze) is at. Check out the regular specials and events such as karaoke, happy hour, in-the-biz deals, and live music. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>

http://www.bardotmiami.com Sick of social media? Bardot has a parking-lot entrance, no sign, and a zero-photography policy. A long bar dominates one side of the single open space, while Moroccan-cool lounge furniture, a pool table, and a stage take up the other half. Topnotch local bands, musicians, and DJs play regularly, and late-night parties make this spot prime for after hours. Plus there's also a weekday happy hour. Expect a cover charge, expensive drinks, and the possibility of a South Beach-style door hassle on busy nights. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>

http://www.bluemartinilounge.com This place makes 42 specialty martinis using a variety of vodkas, infusions, fruits, sodas, and, of course, olives. It's a sexy lounge that offers live entertainment and is open seven nights a week. Wine and champagne are available by the bottle or in "splits" (half-bottles from a limited menu). http://www.bongoscubancafe.com This is as close as it gets to Havana's Tropicana, the swanky, pre-Castro supper club where "Babalu" was born. The salsa theme puts on the ritz accompanied by lots of Cuban food, lots of Cuban music, and lots of Cubans period. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.brickellirishpub.com Brickell Irish Pub is rather like a very dark sports bar: lots of plasma TV sets, rock music, and so forth. If that's not your cup of brew, there's a brighter, quieter outdoor dining patio. Either way, you can choose from dozens of bottled beers at $4.50 to $5.50 and ten drafts at $6.25 per pour. The menu proffers about a half-dozen each of pub snacks, starters, salads, sandwiches, burgers, dinner entrées, and sides. What differentiates a "pub snack" from a "starter" is vague; the first category includes fish dip, Buffalo shrimp, mozzarella sticks, and potato skins; the latter brings, among other things, chicken wings, chicken tenders, and beef sliders. We advise to avoid the fish dip. Begin instead with char-grilled sliders or a pan-seared Irish fish cake flaky with smoked salmon and cod. Fish 'n' chips, shepherd's pie, and Irish stew were solid if not sensational. The only problem with a dessert called "McKrispy's bread pudding" is that it wasn't crisp enough. Service is amateurish, but prices are forgiving: All pub snacks and starters are under $10, all main courses less than $20. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>

http://www.burgernbeerjoint.com This South Beach hangout has more attitude than a Hell's Angel. OK, perhaps that's pushing it a little, but it's a sports bar, lounge, and restaurant that is definitely more than just a tatted-up Mickey D's. (This should come as no surprise, because it is the creation of Automatic Slims' conceptual owner and a former GM from SushiSamba.) An upstairs lounge, open 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and now Mondays for poker, is a great getaway for locals who love to rock, especially when bands perform. It boasts eight TV sets, green chalkboard walls, an oval bar, and a purple-cloth pool table. B&B's sports bar is where you can also find folks drinkin' and smokin' from happy hour on. With 99 types of beer, an incredible wine list, a full bar, and a cocktail menu with selections named "Harry Palmer," "Lowrider," and "Daisy Duke," you can bet patrons stay until the wee hours. But the focal point is the restaurant, where carnivores can customize a burger with a choice of a half- or full pound of free-range beef, Kobe, or turkey; four buns; eight types of cheese; grilled toppings; a selection of unique sauces (we're partial to the Atomic horseradish, tarragon rémoulade, and chipotle ketchup); raw veggies; and "Pure Platinum" toppings such as foie gras ($13) and truffle demi ($8). The least expensive cheeseburger runs about $10.75, but the "Stairway to Heaven," with Kobe, foie, and the demi, rings in at a whopping $39. Whatever you partake of, throw the thoughts of keeping kosher out the window and pair your beef with a deep-fried Twinkie and an adult milkshake (we love the "O Face" and "Money Shot"), made with Edy's ice cream right from the case. Even the kiddies will get a kick out of this joint, especially because they get their own menu and crayons with which to deface the tabletops. Hell, if you're feeling rebellious, pick up a Crayola too. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.cameomiami.com Once upon a time, Cameo was a theater inhabited by skaters and punks. Trick contests took place in the alley while bands such as the Circle Jerks, 7 Seconds, Fugazi, and Gwar set up inside the large club. Nowadays, Cameo is one of the main clubs in the Opium Group dynasty. The floor plan is similar to that of neighboring Opium family member Mansion; the large main room features a DJ booth on a stage, and the second-floor balcony overlooks it and the dance floor. Depending on the night, partygoers can get a taste of hip-hop, house, or live performances from some of the biggest names in the industry. http://www.churchillspub.com Miami is sorely lacking in decent rock clubs, so Churchill's is home to many a scruffy punker who is too real for South Beach. A pair of pool tables, a large room for bands, and a sizable outdoor patio help house the mainland rock faithful. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.thecloud9online.com Cloud 9 is lesbian hangout that's also the kind of place you turn to for good conversation -- and when you're in need of a stripper pole. The understated interior is disguised by a generically painted/decorated exterior that might lead many a passerby to drive on, ignorant of the genial friendliness inside... And of the amateur strip contests like Dare 2 Bare. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Club-Cinema/104399369595816 Our inaccessible geography aside, one major reason bands have forsaken us is our preponderance of pathetic venues with nasty bathrooms, bad sound, no parking, and just a general all-around malaise. Part of the problem is that few live music venues were designed as such — believe it or not, we've had everything from Cuban restaurants to Winn-Dixies doubling as rock-concert rooms. Naturally, like everything else in South Florida, Club Cinema is housed in a strip mall... in Lighthouse Point. But inside, the swankier-than-thou feel echoes famous rooms like the Fillmore. The lighting, the design, and the well-placed bars all signify class and attention to detail. Now, in these very pages, we've dismantled local politicians and exposed Club Cinema as a business that's very likely more mobbed-up than a Godfather-Goodfellasmarathon. But what the heck — if that's what it takes to make audiences feel like they're watching a show in a real goddamned city, we'll take it.
