The days of disco live on beyond the beaded curtains at Boca Raton's kitschy nightclub Platforms. Illuminated by multicolored lighting, lava lamps, and reflections off a disco ball, every inch of the venue is dripping in nostalgia. Vintage lunchboxes, laser discs, and an endless number of records dangle from the ceiling, and flat-screen televisions play old-school music videos. A Thriller-clad mannequin stands on a platform, perfect for a tipsy photo opp. Bubbles sprinkle the checkered dance floor where the lively crowd does the hustle and shows off their best electric slide. Before heading out the door, don't forget to stop off at the candy store to grab a pack of candy cigarettes or a ring pop for the ride home. Hidden on a side street off Federal Highway's bar row in Boca, Shisha Cafe would be easy to miss if not for the hearty tobacco aromas that cloak the place. A medley of scents including apple, coconut, mango, caramel, or a blend of all greet you at least 20 feet before you reach the door. We recommend their secret blend Piece of Paradise. The inside decor continues to stimulate the senses with rich red walls and funky artwork. Shisha doesn't serve alcohol, but the popular hangout spot the Lodge shares a patio space. So grab a beer, then a hookah at Shisha and mingle with in-the-know locals somewhere in the middle. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
Inside Boca Raton's Mizner Park is Spin Ultra Lounge, a sophisticated New York City-style lounge. The well-sized venue has a center dance floor and an eclectic selection of seating for large parties or couples getting to know each other. In addition to its full-service bars, Spin has a variety of small-plate delights including mini Kobe beef corn dogs, truffle-oil waffle fries, and an array of signature sliders. Upscale in design and atmosphere, the indoor/outdoor lounge's nightly house music and Top 40 happenings attract a hip young-professionals crowd. Although it's 15 feet from a Ten Commandments monument in the heart of Royal Palm Plaza, Boca club Taboo doesn't veil its intention to break some rules. Red curtains build anticipation as you walk into a smoky room with two bars, fiery red blown-glass chandeliers, and blue lights illuminating a second-floor DJ and the two dancers on his right and left, wrapping themselves around a pole. The music is a fun blend of '90s Top 40 dance hits that will follow you to the polished outside patio featuring another bar and plenty of comfy, white couches. Tricky Dick's is a casual, blue-collar spot by day, and a lively gathering of 20-somethings by night -- especially on Mondays from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., when women drink free. Located off 441 in west Boca Raton, this low-key watering hole boasts the regular bar swag: beer signs and lots of sports on the TVs. At night, the dance floor packs a DJ, two pool tables, darts, booths, and a whole lot of bodies vibing to electronica and old-school hip hop. Though during the day, the jukebox pumps out classic rock. The island bar divides the room, seemingly between partiers and onlookers. And it also opens up into a package store on one side. Tricky Dick's has a 23-hour license, so the party starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 5 a.m. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
http://www.turn3sportsbar.com Vroom. Vroom. Rev up those engines. Turn 3 Sports Bar is just around the corner, waiting to become your home away from home. Tucked away in Sandlefoot Plaza in Boca Raton, this neighborhood-style sports bar is a spot for kicking back with a beer and unwinding after a long day at work. Family owned and run, this cozy watering hole has a myriad of accouterments to complement a night of drinking. Trophies and beer memorabilia line the walls, but the folks inside give this place all its character. With darts to pool tables and hours extending until 5 a.m., there is no telling what will happen after a few rounds of beers. Open seven days a week, there are drink specials throughout the day and live music onstage almost every night of the week. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
This aptly named dive is hidden in Boca's compact light-industrial sector and is a favorite among the blue-collar types who punch a clock in the area. Football pennants line the ceiling, racing signs abound, and there's a small space reserved for a few pool tables. But at happy hour, the sport of choice is cheap, good drink and plenty of it. Though an old-school cigarette machine stands guard at the entry, the air of the Warehouse Pub is surprisingly clear, likely owing to the full menu, which includes fish specials, pizza, fried foods, and even tossed salads. Don't let the nondescript "rough" exterior or more mature crowd frighten you away - the record won't come screeching to a halt when you step through the door for the first time. This is a good-natured drinking man/woman's bar, where you can expect to get your money's worth for a glass of cold beer, and it will be served with a smile. A little hint of the Emerald Isle can be found just beyond the doors of the Wishing Well Irish Pub in Boca Raton. The high-ceilinged and roomy pub is located in the heart of the city at Mizner Village. Although the interior feels a bit like the old city of Dublin, the wide variety of flat-screen TVs, dartboards, and pool tables makes any patron feel right at home. In addition to the inside, there is also an outdoor garden patio for those looking to escape and take in the surroundings. Not only is there a colorful array of beers and liquors to choose from but there are traditional delights on hand like bangers and mash or a succulent shepherd's pie to fuel those Irish cravings. So take a load off and wash the day's troubles away with a hearty pint of Guinness or Harp, or try your luck with a stiff shot of Irish whiskey. http://www.wowiessportsgrill.com Do you love the bawdy locker room vibe at Hooters but wonder why beautiful girls subject themselves to the garish orange get-up, with support hose and high-top sneaks? (Hint: student loans) Then head to this sexy sports bar where the dress code is often as hot as the wings coming out of the kitchen. With a staff decked out in corsets and short-shorts, you'd think the food was an afterthought -- but the menu is surprisingly lengthy, with dishes like chicken bruschetta, gorgonzola-topped steak panini, steamed mussels, handmade zeppole dusted with powdered sugar, and a host of other inventive sandwiches and salads.
