Beyond the giant bar just beyond the entrance, a live DJ often spins music near a dance floor with ample room to get down. Live music plays every Saturday night, with a rotating list of bands. To the right is another room where patrons can be found playing at pool tables or shooting darts. If you come on Sunday or Monday, you can play pool for free all day. Cure your hangover on Sunday mornings with $2 bloody marys. On Wednesday, play free darts and enjoy $2 rum, vodka, or gin drinks all day and night. Pitchers of beer are always $5. Formerly a well-loved dive-slash-comedy bar of the same name back in the 1980s, Mr. Laff's new proprietors have breathed new life into it. When it comes to keeping customers (laughingly) happy, Mr. Laff's begins with the food - the creative, mostly American menu includes sesame salmon, served with shitake caps and sweet soy, for $16.95, and a California-style burger with avocado for $11.50. There's also an affordable kids' menu, and before 8 p.m. Sunday and Thursday, ten entrees cost only $9.95. The ten-for-ten deal won't rob you of the goods; there's grouper, ribs, and steak among the choices. But the main goal here is entertainment: Monday is Southern bike night, featuring classic rock and country music spun by resident DJs; Tuesday is karaoke night; Wednesday is ladies' night, which means half-price drinks from 10 p.m. till 2 a.m. for the female patrons; and Thursday is open mic night till 3 a.m. Things continue to get musical over the weekend, with a live band takes the stage on Fridays and Saturdays. With a decent amount of large TV screens to watch the game and a room for private parties to round out the amenities, it's hard not to stay happy at Mr. Laff's.
